Total Immersion: The Edible Institute on Sept 27th

If Edible underwent a Madison Avenue branding makeover, perhaps our new slogan would be, “It’s not just a magazine, it’s a way of life.”

All grandiose kidding aside, during our upcoming Eat Drink Local week (September 26 thru October 6), we are really inviting readers to experience us in all five senses for eleven glorious, gut-busting days. Sure there will be plenty of feasting—at restaurants, farmers markets, soirees and even in your own kitchen—but we want to stretch your thinking more than your waistline. That’s why we’re bringing the magazine to life on Monday September 27th for the Edible Institute at the New School on W. 13th Street.

No, it’s not a new XBox video game and you don’t need an avatar; Rather it’s an afternoon of ideas. Inspired by the first gathering of the same name convened last year in Santa Fe, we’ve invited the best minds in real food to break bread together, and talk with their mouths full. (It’s also a cheap date: If you come for all four panels, it’s just $20.)

On Monday September 27th, join our editors as we chew the fat with them on the topics we most love to dissect in our pages. From the DIY phenomenon to the definition of authentic eats to the locavore movement and a look at what’s next in Gotham’s glasses, we’ve assembled a killer lineup of speakers, including Tom Mylan, Ed Levine, Dorothy Hamilton and Colin Alevras. You’ll leave nourished both literally and figuratively, and there’s no risk of getting a paper cut. You can get more on times, places, panels, speakers and reserve your spot right here.

(And if you can’t get enough of the Edible Institute, and you are an East Coaster looking for a warm vacation spot, consider the next installment of the Edible Institute in Santa Barbara on January 29-30, 2011. Details at
