In the current issue of Edible Manhattan we profiled one of the coolest people we’ve met in the past year: Adam Aleksander, who helps plan secret salon-style supper clubs (we’ve been to three, all awesome) and over-the-top, themed events that usually require costumes and are as much performance art as much as they are parties.
Aleksander was one of the minds behind like last Friday’s night’s Manhattan Cocktail Classic gala, which took over three drunken floors of the New York Public Library, as captured here on the Huffington Post. (Mario Batali, FYI, held court at the Campari Cart on level one.)
If you missed that Aleksander-inspired evening, don’t fret, as his next big production is an honest-to-goodness prom, only one 10,000 times better than the one I attended in my high school cafeteria back in 1991.
We’re not even sure where to begin — and of course, you can get all the details at the awesomely named site www.epicprom.com — but we’ll try to give a hint at the greatness of this evening.
It’ll be a 1950s-styled shindig in an abandoned Catholic school in Williamsburg, with cocktails sponsored by Hendrick’s Gin, a live performance by the Harlem James Gang and a multi-course cafeteria meal made by the fine cooks known as Theo and Nick of The Food Experiments. (They cater too! Plus we presume at least one of them is a good Catholic boy.)
It’s $75 for dinner; $40 just to drink and to dance after 8:30 p.m., and for an extra $15 dinner-goers get to ride a school bus from Manhattan. And yes, you’d better believe prom wear is required!
